CO2 Clean

Our closed-loop CO₂ cleaning technology delivers many advantages, especially when working with items intended for first quality. One of the most impactful benefits is the ability to clean and process textiles with hangtags and packaging still attached. This significantly reduces handling, shortens processing time, and lowers overall costs.
While we can get highly technical about how the system works, the simple truth is this: CO₂ cleaning is a waterless solution that excels at removing odors, body oils, and mold—while minimizing abrasion, color bleed, and energy use. The process is also fast and efficient; a single 45-minute cycle delivers items that are both clean and completely dry.
In the unlikely event that CO2 isn't the best cleaning options, we offer traditional water wash and drying.
Mold Mitigation
Sometimes shipping containers leak. Sometimes pipes burst in a stockroom. However it happens, mold can become an issue. Tersus Solutions offers a proven solution (and added peace of mind) through a rigorous process that includes pre-testing, CO₂ cleaning, and post-testing to ensure mold is fully removed and products are returned to first-quality standards.

Odor Issues?
Where CO₂ cleaning excels. Just one cycle through the system effectively strips away even the most stubborn odors, allowing products to be restored or sold as first-quality items. Sometimes we wish the web could provide a sense of smell—it’s hard to do this level of cleaning justice with images alone.
Garlic
It’s happened more than once—and across multiple brands—shipping odors are a real issue. A truck that previously transported garlic can later deliver new products, creating an overwhelming odor problem. Garlic permeates textiles (from jackets to boots), rendering items unsellable as new, if sellable at all.
Cigarette Smoke
There are also times when we encounter trade-in or returned items from households with smokers. Smoke odors are particularly challenging because they don’t just sit on the surface—they penetrate fibers, linings, foams, and insulation. Even when an item looks clean, the lingering smell can remain strong enough to impact resale, recommerce, or warranty decisions, making traditional cleaning methods ineffective.
Product Remanufacturing & Decommissioning

When a new product arrives and isn’t exactly what was expected, even a small adjustment can make it right. Our team can modify seams, add snaps or webbing pulls, insert care labels, or implement other design changes. We work closely with your team to develop the best solution and then execute the rework at scale.
If a product—or an entire collection—is completely unsalvageable and must be deconstructed due to safety or quality concerns, we can also provide responsible decommissioning solutions.
Hem Defect
When a manufacturing defect affected the bottom hem of a run of 2,200 jackets, a high-performance hunting brand needed a fast solution to correct the issue and return the products to market. With supply chain disruptions during COVID increasing demand, timing was critical.
After reviewing a sample and developing a repair standard, Tersus received the full shipment and reworked all units for efficiency. For approximately 7.5% of MSRP, the brand was able to recover the inventory and return the jackets to market in time for the holiday retail season.
Product Decommission
Some products must be decommissioned to ensure they cannot be mistakenly used due to safety concerns, recalls, or quality issues. Tersus Solutions provides a secure, controlled process to receive and track these units before fully deconstructing them into components that eliminate the risk of future use. Through careful handling and documented processes, we help brands ensure products are responsibly removed from circulation while meeting safety, liability, and compliance requirements.

Are there benefits to cleaning with CO₂ versus water? We believe there are—and we’re willing to do the work and testing to prove it. We partner with brands to clean materials using both methods, running multiple cycles to define performance limits, durability, and long-term outcomes.
